Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When was Wildcat Power Gen founded? What does Wildcat Power Gen do?

Wildcat Power Gen was founded in 2013.

Wildcat proudly provides better power through the design, manufacture, and sale of our American Made, Commercial Grade gensets.

The Wildcat product line is prime power rated for commercial applications and engineered for a 10,000+ hour lifecycle.

Q: What is the difference between Prime Power gensets and Emergency Backup / Standby Power gensets?

Prime Power gensets are designed to be the primary source of power. Prime Power applications require engine, alternator, and controller components that can operate reliably for days and weeks without fail.

Emergency Backup / Standby Power gensets are designed for what the name implies: To operate in a standby mode and provide power in an emergency. While Backup / Standby gensets are engineered to perform the job for days and even weeks, they are not rated nor backed by warranties to operate the lifecycles expected out of a Prime Power genset.

All Wildcat gensets are built with Prime Power grade components, even if a customer uses them in a Backup / Standby manner. We back that up with our standard, “Best In Class” 5,000-Hour, 3-Year commercial warranty.

Q: What components are used to build the Commercial Grade equipment manufactured by Wildcat Power Gen?

Engines

Wildcat builds with diesel engines that are exclusively supplied from Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited (KOEL), which is a 120+ year old global company and one of the largest diesel engine manufacturers in the world. Learn more about KOEL at kirloskaroilengines.com.

Wildcat builds with natural gas and propane engines that are supplied from Arrow Engine Company, which is an American company from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Arrow Engine has supplied industrial engines, compressors, and pumps to the oil and gas market for 50+ years. Learn more about Arrow Engine at arrowengine.com.

Both KOEL and Arrow build commercial derivative engines designed for power generation and do not use automotive derivative engines (engines designed for automobiles).

Alternators

Wildcat builds with world class alternators from Leroy Somer and Stamford. Learn more about Leroy Somer at acim.nidec.com. Learn more about Stamford at stamford-avk.com.

Controllers

Wildcat builds with industry leading controllers from Deep Sea Electronics. Learn more about Deep Sea at deepseaelectronics.com.

Enclosures and Fuel Tanks

Wildcat builds with industrial enclosures and fuel tanks.

Q: How should you choose the right generator for the project?

Application

What is the application? Do you need Standby Power for the occasional or rare natural disaster or storm? Or do you need Continuous Power to provide electricity for days, weeks and even months? Have you ever thought of Parallel Power by connecting multiple Wildcat generators together for redundancy? Wildcat can help you determine the proper gen set for the application.

Size

What are the Volts and Amps of the project? To determine how many Watts are needed, we can simply use Ohm’s Law: Amps x Volts = Watts. You can usually find the Amps and Volts at the main line circuit breaker.

Fuel

Every fuel choice has pros and cons, but the biggest factors to consider are application, emissions, and availability. Residential application typically run with NG/LPG because most locations have easy access to those fuels and gasoline and diesel fuels degrade in quality after being idle for 6 months or more. Commercial applications with continuous operation may choose Diesel fuel due to availability, cost, and burn efficiencies, or they may choose NG/LPG for availability and green energy requirements.

Location

Both climate and elevation impact the performance of all gen sets. If your project is above 5,000 feet, there will be a derate in power output as the air gets thinner. Also, climate affects the gen set with humidity and heat inside the enclosures (heat index), and with extreme cold on diesel gen sets (fuel warming addon systems).

Contact us to discuss your project, we will guide you through it all with no obligation.

Q: How are Wildcat products priced and sold in the market?

Wildcat Power Gen sells its products through our Channel Partners. These include Dealers, Distributors, and Enterprise Accounts that routinely buy in volume. In the event there is no Dealer or Distributor in your area, you may buy directly from Wildcat Power Gen.

Wildcat provides a Manufacturer Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP). Channel Partners offer pricing to their customers.
